For over 1000 years, the Royal Square has been at the centre of Jersey life. Most people have heard the story of Major Peirson and the Battle of Jersey, but you have probably strolled through the square without questioning why the golden statue wears a Roman toga and a woman’s garter. Tom Bunting, seasoned Blue Badge Guide, will answer that question and many more! You could find out that you’re a descendant of someone who spent 24 hours in the stocks for wearing trousers or indeed a relative of the person who put her there in medieval times. As part of the celebrations of International Guiding Day, Tom will take you through 1000 years of history in lightning quick time, answering questions on all the plaques, buildings and statues (and a sundial that never tells the correct time). If you want to test his knowledge by staying for the whole time (one and a half hours), you’re very welcome. But he will also understand if you want to dip in and out of the tour at your leisure. Come along and discover the secrets and surprises of Jersey’s beautiful Royal Square. It’s free – but contributions will never be snubbed and will be donated to the Jersey Alzheimer’s Association.
There’s no need to book, just turn up but if you require more details phone Tom on 07797780868 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
